You have likely seen the Ferris Wheel lights on the shoreline along Lake Michigan, but have you ever taken a spin? If so, you know this infamous landmark is part of Navy Pier.  If you haven’t, (1) you should go and (2) you are missing out on an exciting part of Chicago’s skyline.

Navy Pier has a long and vibrant history. Originally opened in 1916, it was first a dock for freights, passenger traffic, and a place for public recreation. After finding seemingly great success upon opening, it has continued to serve many purposes and today encompasses more than fifty acres of parks, gardens, shops, restaurants, and exhibition facilities.

If you find yourself with a few extra hours and anxious to check out this popular attraction, here are our top 3 must see spots to stop at Navy Pier:

1. We said it once, and we’ll say it again: check out the Ferris Wheel! Once you jump on The Centennial, the 196 foot Ferris Wheel, you’ll not only experience a birds-eyes view of the Windy City, but you’ll soar in one of 40 gondolas all made of glass. Little known fact: after recent renovations, The Centennial is now the 6th tallest Ferris wheel in the world!

2. Ready to test your sense of direction while you get lost in a quirky maze? Navy Pier’s amazing Funhouse Maze is Chicago’s only self-paced, full sensory maze experience. You’ll navigate your way through 4,000 square feet of tunnels, mazes and fun, which is sure to get your adrenaline pumping.

3. For a more cultured experience, check out the Chicago Shakespeare Theater conveniently located right at the Pier. With hundred’s of unique shows every year (and at affordable prices) there is bound to be a play, musical, or show that captivates you.

So there you have it, our favorite things to do at Navy Pier.  At Edgecase, we are all about an enriched experience whether we’re shopping or traveling.  We hope that you’ll have some time to enjoy the show.
